Treasure.

Finally our adventurer arrives at the destination that is marked with a big x on the map. It took him planes, trains and automobiles to get here. Would this be it? The moment he had waited for?

Slowly he descends into the cave. A torch in one hand and his lasso in the other. Through the spiderwebs, past the narrow edges and over the cracking bones of thieves who tried this journey many times before him.

Until he arrives in the hall of the king. A tiny ray of sunlight guides him forward. He has to wait for the exact time that the sun light hits the book cover. That is what the clue said.

There it is! 9:41 am. He brushes the dust away from the cover and silver letters light up to reveal the title of the book: “The Book of Life”.

He turns the first page and nothing is in it. The whole book is empty, until the first lines of text appear magically. Inviting you to write a new story.

Pages brings stories to life by making your imagination a reality.

The Steps.

Here is my story:

Open Pages and start with a new book template.

First we will design the cover of the book.

Tap on the plus sign on the upper right hand corner and work with either images, shapes or drawings to create the cover. These can be found in the media or shapes section.

Once the cover is done we can focus on the story. What kind of story do you want to tell?

For my example I will use a combination of text, drawings and interactivity.

I like to start visually to make my readers curious, so go ahead and get your Apple pencil out. Start drawing.

Once you are done I would like to bring this sketch to life.

Select your drawing and then tap on the paintbrush. Now tap on the switch behind Animate Drawing.

Great! You are off the a wonderful start.

For the remainder of the story repeat these steps or start adding text.

Going Further.

Now that you have added your story to the Book of Life, I can’t wait to see what happens next.

This is one of the activities that educators can participate in during The Playground at FETC and TCEA.

If you are inspired to try this yourself, have a look at the resources I used:
