The Reindeer.

I received a Christmas present a little early yesterday. I must have been a good boy this year. The first tears in the wrapping paper quickly revealed the content: a Brickz LEGO action figurine. These projects have given me hours of fun already and I couldn’t wait to get started.

It also made me think: Which of the Christmas characters could I turn into a superhero? The obvious one would be Santa himself, but I wanted to challenge myself so I went with Rudolph.

The comic book template I created earlier this year was my starting point. This Christmas there is a new hero in town: The Reindeer – Rudolph.

With Pages you can turn a comic book into a whole new interactive experience.

The Steps.

Here is my story:

First download the comic book template here.

Open the file in Pages.

Tap on the plus sign at the lower left hand corner and add a few pages to your book.

Next tap your Apple Pencil on the screen and use the drawing tools to shape your story.

TIP: Use a storyboard before you take off or have at least some sense of what your story will look like. Otherwise it’s going to take a while before you fill up all the panels.

Once your drawings are in, it’s time to add the conversations and comic effects.

Tap on the plus sign at the upper right hand corner and dive into the Shape Library. I work a lot with the basic star and speech bubble shape.

Pace the shape in the right panels. Don’t be afraid to go outside of the lines.

TIP: Use plain text boxes to tell the story from the narrators’ point of view.

The last step is the share your result and have learners read it.

Tap on the three dots at the upper right hand corner and select Export.

From the four options, choose ePub and then copy it to Books.

Enjoy the adventures!

Going Further.

After creating your comic, you can take your creativity even further by recording your own sound effects in GarageBand and Live Loops or by recording audio in the speech bubbles.
