It’s Time.

As the holiday season is coming closer and closer now, I want to dedicate some time to enhancing your creativity during the Christmas break. Get your iPad out and create something together with your family and friends.

For this activity I will focus on a Christmas ornament. My wife has a long tradition of getting a personal ornament for a special person every year.

That inspired me to spread that love and what better than shapes, drawings and Keynote to help us with that.

Unite, intersect, subtract or exclude shapes to create new objects. Creativity comes with experimenting.

The Steps.

Here is my story:

Open Keynote and start from a blank template.

Delete any of the text boxes.

Tap the plus sign on the top right and go to the shapes library. Select a shape you like. I used a circle to create a Christmas ball.

Enhance your ornament by playing with the style, border and fill.

TIP: To create the hanger on top the ornament I used a rectangle with rounded corners and the light bulb shape.

Next you want to decorate the Christmas ball. For this you can either use shapes, an image or a drawing. I used my Memoji and then traced it with the drawing function.

TIP: To create the glow on the ball I added another circle with a lighter red and then covered that with another circle in the same color as the original circle.

Going Further.

As an alternative I started playing around with just shapes and more specifically the hexagons. With the same steps as mentioned here above you can create something totally different (see example below) with the same Christmas spirit.

If you are inspired to try this yourself, have a look at the resources I used:

Have fun!
